Usually blot/bottle(?)flies and they are good since they are helping to break down the excess green organic matter in the beds. I would not "nuk'em" if I were you since they aren't doing any harm and will leave on their own.

Thanks! I left them alone. Could these possibly be earthworms? I didn't notice at the time of writing the post, but when I went back and did some fiddling with the "soil" in the same area, I noticed two fat gorgeous lively earthworms! I guess this means my planter "soil" is healthy?

Hi i was clearing out my shed today and went to lift up a fishing bag when it appeared to be stuck to the wooden floor. So then prized it free only to find something had like woven cocoon type material to stick it to the floor ! On disturbing this stuff long thin yellow maggots or grubs appeared from it! What do you think done this please?Must be very strong as it had not only wore away some of the very strong bag but where the weaving had gone on taken out some of the flooring to, to leave it smooth!

Maggots, the larva of any one of the many fly species, live on wet rotting organic matter There are many colors, depending on the species, but they all look like squirming grains of rice., Any desiccant, some substance that will absorb moisture, will get rid of them fairly quickly. Salt, blood meal, and silica gels are examples of desiccants.
