Weekend Journal

Well, I'd hoped to post pictures entitled "This the pantry Rob built", but alas, it looks like a crazed UT fan painted it. Not the color we envisioned. In the meantime, I tried out a faux painting technique that looks good but still isn't the happy cheerful orange we wanted. ARGH! I've done the sanding, more mudding, trim work, puttied, sanded, and my ceiling/trim is a crisp white to match the shelving in the pantry. I asked on the cooking forum what quote I should stencil in there. Some really great quotes I thought about very seriously like LindaC's (approach cooking and love with reckless abandon), Annie's Irish thought, Ann's Cicero quote... but basically, I'm too lazy and the space is too small, so "Eat, drink, be merry", is what it'll be. The house is coming along. Ed is "wrapping" the concrete porch (leveled by me so that water doesn't seep down into the foundation) with wood. The look is slowly, steadily coming along. We're taking a break from the bathroom. We need fixtures and then to tile. We're both daunted by the task of tiling, so there they sit on the floor. They've been straight and diagonal, but neither one has inspired us to get it done. LF rode his big boy (really big, it belonged to a student at the university where I work!), all weekend long. We hit the upper 60s and no one wore a coat. The doors stayed open and I even, gasp!, sweated a bit. LF and I got to hang out all day together yesterday and we really enjoyed each other. It was a nice break from schoolwork and workwork. I have a case report due today and have to attend class tomorrow night. It's hard right now, but in a couple of months I'll get a three month break. I'm in the home stretch for school. At work, our national meeting I've been working on for TWO freakin' years now is upon us. I'm biting my nails, but will keep it close to my heart until it's over and the pats on the back are there. Then I'll sink into a puddle! I can tell my stress level by our dinners; comfort food, comfot food, comfort food. We've had chicken pot pie and biscuits (yes, I'm Southern!), meatloaf and tonight is my go-to meal, chicken Marsala with herb roasted potatoes.
