An interesting article in this morning's NYtimes about weeds, their resistance, and - get ready for this - the possibility of controlling them without dumping untold amounts of synthesized poisons into the general environment.

Despite the recent thread here that gives the impression that bindweed is about to deprive us of sustenance, this nytimes article uses the example of barnyard grass, which also seemingly alone could do us all in. It goes on to say that - shocker - weeds are good at what they do, and they exist because of our activities. We created them, we can control them. Without fouling our soil and water.

This may be news to the average nytimes reader, but I think here on the OG forum we already know such basic stuff as that rye is allelopathic, as an example, and that controlling weeds is a complex undertaking. Once several weeds are out of control some time will be required before crops will be productive again.

Anyway, I thought it was interesting that such things have been judged newsworthy for a general audience.
