using pond water

Hello,

We raise ducks and geese on pasture and I'm considering ways to use the water from a portable "pond" as a fertigation resource. If I filter it I can use a normal drip type irrigation system, and can compost the solids. My question is whether anyone is currently doing this and does anyone have an idea of the nutrient profile of filtered duck/geese swimming water? The water gets quite heavily colored in a day or two, but I haven't had it analyzed. Additionally, does anyone have any thoughts about it as a potential foliar nutrient? Thanks.

i can't answer any of your questions, however, i always used my aquarium water on my outside flowers when i had several breeding tanks going (and several large water changes). i didn't use it as a foliar feed, just around the plant. great fertilizer in my opinion, but i also was not growing veggies at the time, or ducks. :)

Geese are vegetarians while the ducks eat slugs etc and greens as well, so if it was straight geese like I have, then I just pour the water right directly onto the gardens as the nitogen is not as hot as carnivore type animals- especially hen dressing or pig manure.

I can apply my goat droppings directly as well, without burning if it is done as a dressing and not dumped heavily.

Your question was on duck and geese water. Can you dump it into a large trash bin and put an aqaurium pump with a hose into it? Make a good compost tea and apply as you wish. Be sure and give it at least 3 days or so to cure before using.

I would apply it directly on yur gardens fromt he pond at the end of the season and let it sit all winter.

I guess such propaganda is now legal here in the forums. Too bad, it takes away from the integrity that the forums were founded on. But now that I understand what the double lines mean, I can choose now if I want to be exposed to propaganda and feel used.

    Happy gardening

Lilyrose, you lost me. What are you talking about in your last paragraph?

yeah, what propaganda are you referring to???

    Ditto on the propaganda!!!!!

I elected to have the double underline removed so not to be dealing with propaganda. On Ivillage they have now allowed propaganda by inserting a link to a commercial site. I requested that this be turned off for my veiwing on the forums, but under the words "pool"(double underlined) in the lead post when clicked it will take you to a commercial link to sell you portable "pools". I became insulted and suckered in not knowing what thats all about.

I didnt think that plastic pools was considered organic anyways, perhaps they should go peddle on the ponds forums.

My pond is dug out and lined with stone, but not to say that organic gardeners cant have a plastic lined pond and still be called orgainc gardeners, I am just saying it belongs in the pond section and I felt it was more a cheap shot to advertise.

one note on the double underlined words: if you just place your cursor on them, and not click, it will not redirect but still make you aware of the "commmercial."

    good luck, armac!

I used to monitor several boards that were absorbed by iVillage. They only permit commercialism (your word: propaganda) if they're getting a royalty. Expect a horrendous number of pop-ups coming, advertising spam, and anything else annoying that we didn't have here before. They were so miserably penurious about milking advertising money, I finally quit. They'll have vitamin ads here soon....

Sorry to detract from the thread, but it hit a nerve. I'm going back now to read about compost tea, since I'm making it by accident.

    Thanks,
    Christine

i dont have anything underlined on the above post, but thats interesting. i notice on one of my posts on a different forum, that words were underlined that i didnt do--sneaky-

Wasn't there a post on this thread about how to opt out of getting those underline ads? Does anyone have the link?

I got the underlined words, but I jut don't click on them. I use firefox browser to limit and eliminate the pop ups, 'nuff said.
