Name That Plant!

Unknown bamboo-like shrub with red flowers in fall

I need help identifying this plant. A friend says it's called "Japanese Lace" but I can't find anything under that name online. It gets to about 7 or 8 feet tall. The stem looks like bamboo. It flowers with tiny red flowers in the fall (the picture was taken in October). It's very prolific and virtually impossible to kill. Forms a very large woody stem at the bottom center of the bush. Any ideas about what this is would be appreciated! I can take some close-ups of the stem and leaves tomorrow. THANKS!!!

Yes, very invasive in parts of the US and UK. "hard to kill" is not a plus here.

I think you're right. I was beginning to think it was some kind of Japanese Knotweed, but everything I could find about that said it had white flowers. I was starting to think maybe this was just another variety, and now I see it is. THANKS!!! Now that I know what it is, I will NOT be planting it in my yard! Thanks so much!!!
