I assume it's a garden escapee. The Connecticut Botanical Society doesn't know it as a wildflower (whichever foxglove it is, it should have been listed under "digitalis").

It's probably Digitalis grandiflora.

if you want digitalis ... there are much better named varieties ...

and some are poisonous

I happen to like Digitalis grandiflora which is a true perennial while many other Digitalis species are not. For example, Digitalis purpurea is biennial. The flower color of Digitalis grandiflora blends with any color.
It's a great plant and you will find it in many of the finest gardens.

Ken - it depends on your definition of 'better'. Some of us like species and subtler, less obvious flowers. Not everyone wants big, blobby bright plants.

Another true perennial foxglove is Digitalis lutea, common name Straw foxglove.

I planted with several small hostas and other shade lovers. Known to be short-lived, mine lasted about five years.
