Are their lines in the ballpark of $20,000 that's what this rug cost. It's wool and silk. Anything at Lewis & Sharon wouldn't even be close to this carpet in terms of quality.

Where is the buffet cabinet from?

We only share our resources with clients who have retained our design services. It's not fair to our paying clients or the MHD team to share key trade resources with anyone who is not a paying client.

A little modesty would be nice Ms Heron. Arrogance is not a way to promote yourself.

I'm sorry you see my honesty as arrogance and I will respectfully disagree. Designers have trade resources that they are not obligated to share. Similarly, I've had clients express outright that they themselves are unwilling to share paint colours used in their projects with their own friends on account of having hired a professional to select them.

Houzz is about sharing our work to inspire or to help those who are looking to hire a designer consider various portfolios and design styles. Respect is a two way street and your comments have done little to earn mine. I stand by our policies and wish you the best of luck in your endeavours.

Wholeheartedly agree with you Meredith. We all need to respect the integrity of the design process and the designer`s right to share/not share their resources. I know Meredith personally and arrogance is the last word I would use to describe her. She has helped us immensely for which we are grateful.

I think there is always the danger of misreading what someone has written or inferring that there is a tone when there isn't one online. It's a hazard of the entire process.

Lewis and Sharon has a certain product some of which we use regularly. My comment was more about highlighting that the rug I used couldn't be found at Lewis & Sharon because the quality is different. No judgment. The person who said it could be purchased there was very much mistaken. Wool & Silk rugs are not in Lewis & Sharon's product grouping. They retail fabrics for under $40/yd. Very different market.

As a designer, it's often our job to educate the difference between products. I get a lot of inquiries about this particular rug at least 3-4 per week. Almost without exception, people are shocked at the price. I wanted to make it known here on the site what it costs so that only serious inquiries would get in touch with us. Listing the price has helped a bit. There was no malice beyond that.

You are right. Unfortunately, most of us aren't in the market to buy a 20,000 $ rug so we will not be inquiring about it anymore. Nevertheless, the rug was a great inspiration and I have found other great options that will look just as fabulous! I assumed Houzz.com was also a cite to admire great design and be inspired by it.

1-I'd like to clarify that the rug I found at Lewis and Sharon was a similar rug(in Atlanta)
2- although I agree in part with most of the statements made I also think that the design community on this board should recognize that the larger numbers of houzz members are women looking for design inspiration that may or may not be able to afford a rug that is $20k- as that may be a drop in the bucket for some it is definitely not for others! It did seem a little harsh in the content that it was written- and implied "if u can't afford it don't bother"- "and don't call us!" I will not assume to know the person who wrote it or their personality- and I understand that one must keep their company policies - but there is no harm in helping people find alternatives-in their price points.

That said - again I apologize for the insinuation that Sharon and Lewis carried this rug- but who the hell would want a rug that cost $20 k in their house unless they live in a museum?

I will continue to refer to this site for inspiration and hope that the designers who continue to help the people who need design help and can't afford an interior decorator continue to do so. While the others do not-

Also Lewis and Sharon retails fabrics upwards of $40 a yard so that is a miss statement and many designers in Atlanta use them- they have a wide range making it attainable to a wider customer base.

I just went on LS's website prices on their fabrics are between $20-$35/yard. Many of their fabrics designers can buy directly from trade only sources and not pay the retail prices. I do like LS for trim.

I pointed out the difference because it is my work and it is of a specific quality and I don't feel that L&S comes close to the same quality. These projects are all professionally designed most often with custom & bespoke elements. As a designer, I find it disheartening to have other people post where the look can be knocked off on my own profile. I find it furthermore in bad taste to then be criticized for pointing out that the "look for less" is not anywhere close to the original design.

I look forward to the conference call Houzz & I will be having just after the new year. I think that are positive changes that can be made on here to alert homeowners to the budget range individual designers work with for their projects. I think qualifying the designer/budget would be insightful for all involved. I also think that each project should be assigned a price tag to show what someone could expect to pay for the same room concept wise.

It's not a judgment about budgets. We have done a wide variety of projects with equally as varied budgets. Having said that, we've been in business for 15+ years now and we know what budget range a project needs to have in order for us to take it on.

Thank you for your comments though, they have been helpful in articulating how I would like to see the site function as a designer.

I've learned time and time again, money does not buy good taste.
