Can't answer your growing questions because I'm not familiar with grass varieties suitable for your climate. I have, however, had a lot of squirrel damage the past 2 years. Last Winter I began shooting them with a high powered pellet rifle. I dramatically reduced the local population (for the time being). Problems are much less this year but I don't know if you can do it legally in your area. I'm probably breaking some ordinance shooting them in mine!

I think it's probably too hot for KBG to do well in Athens, but you might be able to add a creeping red fescue. There are also some tall fescues that spread. A brand name I know of is WaterSaver RTF, which is actually a blend, and only one of the fescues in the blend is rhizomatous. I'm pretty sure there are others as well.

How 'bout them Dawgs. Maybe next year...ahhh well. I'm pretty sure it gets about as hot here as it does in Athens, so our applications are about the same. Like bpgreen said, creeping red or a really good TTTF quality blend should do it. KBG usually doens't fair too well here unless you water the crap out of it, and with current water conservation rules, well...

That said, I'm gonna have to do the same thing this year because I got hit with either a bad fungus and/or late summer grubs that wiped out most of my grass that I've been nursing and reseeding for about 6 years. At this time of year I usually put out the last fert application along with Dimension for poa control, but I'm holding off on the Dimension so I can reseed...probably in late Feb or very early Apr so it can get a little head start before summer. Just my $.02
