Lilo Documentary

Some of your may not know that Lilo was asked to take part in a documentary film about German women who married GI's in World War II and came to this country. That must have been three or four years ago. Lilo sent me a copy the other day and wants anyone else who is interested to be able to see it too.

The film is a slice of history not much written about or made the subject of documentaries - it's interesting and often moving to hear these women talk about their lives. Of course I most enjoyed seeing our Lilo and hearing her share something of her life as a young woman and a little of where her journey began and where it has taken her. This woman is a treasure.

Lilo wants the dvd to be passed along to whomever else would like to see it.

The first person to respond to this and send me their snail mail will be the next one to get the dvd. When that person has seen it they in turn will post a new thread and the first person who responds to that will get it and so on.

Marda has the good idea that each of us might put in a brief note when we send it on and that way, when it eventually returns to Lilo she will have a message from each of who see it.

Hooray...I saw your post first. Will send you my address.

    LOL - you're fast!

I'm up here working on the Voters' so kept checking. Don't know how I let a whole hour go by though before seeing it. Can't wait to see this and Lilo.

I'm on my way out to the post office in five minutes - it's bucketing down rain but I will not be stopped by that:)

I included a not in envelop that I thought we could all use to put notes in.

I have a question for Lilo. Should you make this finite? Do you want to set a date where the person who has it then returns the dvd and notes to you? You can always start a new chain but you might like to get your notes before they get so old they crumble into dust:)

I've been watching what's going on, and waiting. Trying to be oh-so patient. I will post some day when others from the first thread have had their chance to respond. But I would like to see it. And I would like to suggest that a timeframe be put on it each time the person receives it. Can we make a mental note to ourselves that we need to watch and send it within a 7-10 day timeframe at the latest? Please? I know we know this, just saying it aloud as I am losing my oh-so little patience like a kid on Christmas eve. Am I ever gonna hear pawing and prancing? I'm ready!!!

Robin, losing patience? It's just begin! :)

But you have a good thought and I trust that everyone will be mindful of the time - I'd suggest no more than a week myself, since the post office takes its sweet time usually and it's not a long film. Perhaps Lilo should say how long she feels is appropriate?

Here is a suggestion: I agree a week is probably a good time-span for holding onto the dvd, about the notes, they are a great idea! I'd say after six notes have accumulated, why not pop them in an envelope and send them to me?
This will give me a chance to comment on the comments?
Of course, please feel free to post anything you want to say - or e-mail me, if you'd rather.
It doesn't matter how long this makes the rounds.
I probably think it's a good idea not to send it to a new name who has registered the day they make the request LOL

    Wanted to say: I think it's probably a good idea to - - -

Oh dear, does this mean we have to have the GP nailed up 24/7 in order to be the next in line?

Shoot! it may never make it to Georgia.
I am so happy that Lilo is sharing this with us
and was wondering the other day if she had her copy yet.

;) yes, already. But, I'll be good for now.

Would it be possible to make copies of the original? In this day and electronic age, it seems reasonable to suggest that there be more than one copy.

This suggestion is rather self-serving, I know. I only check in here a couple of times a day and I know I'll be at the end of the line forever.

Which makes me think we could make a queue and know where we are on the list? Could we, instead of scrambling to be next, make some kind of schedule so we would know when we might get a look at the DVD? I guess I'm saying that a system that will require constant vigilance in order to be "next" seems unreasonable for busy people who have so many things to do in a day that monitoring the computer screen just isn't in the cards.

Is the DVD available on sale anywhere?

Pidge, I actually thought of a queue too. I'm prepared to manage it - I would just have to think the best way to do that.

Lilo - how do you feel about a queue? Seems appropriate since during the war everyobody in Europe had to queue for everything ~ it teaches patience and character:)

Pidge - it is not for sale, the DVD was made of my private VHS. Apparently the production Company was thinking of a sale to an US TV entity, because this copy is in English and/or sub-titled when needed. It originally was shown in both Germany and France in 2006.

Okay, Lilo, I see what the deal is. Sorry it isn't appearing in the US, maybe NPR or something like that. We are getting large doses of Ken Burns's The War, which is fine, but I wish we could get something like your history, too.
Sheila, could we all just sign up for having a turn and the queue could be listed on a first-come/first-served basis? Then we would have to sign up, be assigned a space in relation to when we sign up, and wait our turn. We do this for the daily quotes and something like that could work here--at least maybe it could work!

Pidge, I hesitate about this because I don't want to take flack if people don't behave themselves and respect the returns date for instance.

Here's how I think it could work.

I would start a thread and number 1 - 15. That would be the first block and everyone would be assigned a number. Whoever has it now (it's actually Marda) would be responsible for contacting the next person and sending it on to them...when they were done and so on. It might need two threads one for waiting and one for sent on to (on this one people would be asked to say who they had sent it on to).

    What do you think?

    I'll welcome input.

I'd vote for a queue however you want to work it. I just don't get here enough to be first to answer any thread.

However the queue ends up being put in place, I ask that my name be put on it. Thanks.
