Well Mike, My goldfish eat my parrots feather, but I only have 15 fish, so I don't think they will ever consume that much of it. When my plants get too thick I pull some out & put them in the compost. What size is your pond? Do you have any fish now? From what I've read on here, Koi also like to eat the plants.

I put some in my pond a few weeks ago and my koi love it! I don't feel like they'll eat all of it though. I only have three small ones.

I had to put my parrot's feather up in the waterfall last year because my 5 comets were devouring it! I over wintered some and tucked it up there to be "safe".

I am new to ponding (the pond came with the house) and I just bought some parrot feathers at the nursery today. There were no instructions on the bundle and the clerk didn't know any more than I about them.
Do I plant or float them? Since it was late I just opened the bundle and layed them in the pond and now I'm reading about quarentening plants...yikes! Did I mess up?

I've been looking for parrot's feather (live in a small rural area and none is available). If you want to pull and bunch out and ship it, I'd gladly pay.

I put mine in pots with gravel. That's all you need to do - otherwise mine float to the skimmer. ALL my fish eat it. They love it to the point of skeletonizing it quickly so I've learned to take cuttings and root them in a pot so I'll always have some to rotate into the pond. It roots very easily.

Hi, I am in california and i came home from a short time out of town and some of my parrot feather plants were thinned out. The roots and stems were there but the majority of the larger leaves were gone. Now a couple of day later the roots, stems and everything have disapeared. I don't think it was the fish as they have never bothered it before. Is there another natural predator that would eat them?
