As far as I know any Iris will grow well with wet feet. You can plant them in just about any medium - dirt, pebbles, ceramic-type pond medium, and, yes, clay cat litter as long as there are no additives.

I haven't tried bearded iris, but my "water" iris are potted in plastic pots - heavy clay dirt with pebbles on top to keep the dirt IN the pot - with the top of the pot about 1" under water. I don't think they care what they are planted in, mine are aggressive growers and are root bound with 8" of root sprouting from each drain hole in a year.

Two years ago I planted a few in a 12"x18"x4" deep rubbermaid type box and this spring it was a solid mass of iris! And its growing great this spring after being frozen in the pond all winter.

I agree, I think any iris will do, though maybe the pot would need to be shallower? Anybody?

Mine don't bloom very well unless they are alittle root bound, even with fertilizer. Has anyone else found this to be the case?

Beardies don't like to have their feet wet. Pretty much any other iris will do fine, though.

There are several classes of Iris that originated from all over the world. So have very different living conditions. Beardeds Dutch and Spanish Iris will rot in n water,particularly overwinter. Think this is also true of Siberian and japanese. There are several native N American as well as Hybrid Louisianna Iris that require standing water or at least wet feet. There are many I can't grow due to a lack of winter no problem for you.
A better product IMO for water planting is Oil dri seems to be a much better clay than kitty litter . It is also cheaper than kitty litter have even used it for planted aquariums .
