Sorry but you are not going to be able to ID this. Lot look like it, so "it looks like..." Is about as close as you will come.

Even as a NOID it's pretty! I hope its fragrant :)

I don't mean to ask for a definite ID because so many are similar. Could you name one or two that look similar? Could you name a few species that are possibly ancestors?

Yes, there is a fragrance but not as wonderful as Gardenia, in my opinion.

If your question was difficult a year or so ago, it is almost impossible since the latest raft of changes to the hybrid register were introduced.....
At least 23,000 Cattleya hybrids registered and that doesn't
take into account intergenerics (Cattleya mixed with one or more Genera)
Anyway, I would guess Blc. something though Rlc. might be more appropriate.
All benched at the local orchid society as Laeliinae Hybrids with various size divisions and a category for cluster types (More than 5 flowers on the raceme).
Have a look at the set of orchids in the link, you will find some that look a bit like your orchid. As for the perfume, that is all over the place too, ranging from nil to delightful
and not so good.

If no one can tell a cultivar name, due to too many registered cultivars, then the registration itself seems to be too difficult.

Every orchid grower has some Noids. It is not a worry, you can enjoy the flowers, bench it at a monthly meeting, even win Grand Champion orchid at an orchid show.

The only thing out of reach is an AOS Award.

There is another "little" problem they makes an ID of a noid even more difficult and that is if the orchid is raised from seed every orchid that blooms from a particular cross will be different. There are many seeds in an orchid seed pod.

As for the registration. The process is not difficult, you fill in a form, part with Ten English Pounds and you get to name the grex (Cross).

If you have orchid A and Orchid B and you wish to cross them, you can check if the cross has been made and what the results look like.....then you can decide if the cross is worth doing.
