Submersible pump placement

I bought a pondmaster 1000 submersible filter. Right now I have it on the deepest section of the pond. It takes up a good amount of room there (the deep section is probably 2'x2' on the bottom), and also is pretty glaringly noticeable there. I was wondering if I could move it up to the shelf or if it should be at the deepest point?

Also I was thinking of moving the pump up to the shelf and having a little bit of a longer hose to the filter. That will remove the space the hose between the pump and filter currently takes on the bottom, since it will be going up instead of on the bottom between the two.

Are either of these ideas valid or should I just leave both of them at the deepest point?

Is there a good way to "hide" the filter? I'm assuming it's a bad idea to put anything on top of it since that might impede the water flow.

I don't think there is a reason to have the pump near the bottom. Many people specifically have it nearer the top so you don't pump the pond dry if there is a big leak/spill, and it also means less lift to the water fall (or upper whatever) which will decrease the work and increase the flow. Of course, having a float switch higher than the pump would solve the drained pond issue.

My pump is on the shelf for the same reason, lack of space in the deepest part. It was a fortunate error in the design as the hose moved and the water was pumped into the gardens. All the fish survived in the small deep end.

DO NOT BUY ANY AQUASCAPE OR AQUASURGE PUMPS. I am still trying to have them honor their three year warranty for over a month now. Will have to bring them to small claims court.

imo you should have something on the bottom,to suck up the fish poop that settles there.
