That's why I was afraid to use wood at first but It'll be fine I bet. Must have been bad wood to start with.

Don't worry too much about it. I have many phals i bark but the biggest bark possible. I just remove the roots that come off easily and are rotten, water them when all the roots inside th pot are white and that's it. They are happy campers.

I use compost tea from my neighbors when I can get it. I also use mychorrizae and all the organic enhancers/fertilizers I can find but in very small dozes and gradually.

Ocasionally I have had rotten roots. But as long as temperatures don't go down under 18C I am ok.Hope the others will chime in as my experience is only limited to 2 years of growing orchids.

be very carefull when using a remedy, even organic. Some like neem oil, have potentially harmful effects on humans/animals. (as just one example of harm done by neem oil - temporary infertility)

Some people think cinnamon helps but I don't know what that would do to the plant.
