Nitrates

Ok well until my 1500gal pond is ready and will be by Sat. my fish have been spending their time in my 90 gallon preform. The water quality was fine until it started turning a brown color. I didn't think much of it because that's usually the process after a water change. I checked all my levels everyday and they were fine. Well, I've lost all 3 gold fish in the last 2 days and yesterday found my shebunkin floating. There are no visible reasons as to why any of these fish were dead. They were all happy and healthy 4 days ago. Now they seem to be dropping like flies. ONE goldfish had some bleeding by his front fins/gills. Nothing major, but it was on both sides. The other 2 goldfish were visibly fine as well as the shebunkin. Levels in the pond were all still fine even with the crappy brown color. Last night after I found the 4th fish I checked again and it showed my nitrates a little high. How do you get your nitrates to be good again and does anyone have a clue why these fish are suddenly dropping like flies?? When the I saw that the first goldfish had that bleeding I did add some salt to the water. Was that bad?? Any help is greatly appreciated!!
