Why do you want to get rid of them? Why not just enjoy what nature has sent you?

Most likely they will get rid of themselves when mating is over. Swarming insects indicates mating and that is often short lived. Might be gnats or mayflies. If you have frogs and birds it is beneficial to have some insects. You cannot use airborne insecticides or you will harm your pond so IMO I'd leave them be. Are they biting you or harming anything?

My pond is on the edge of my woodlands. I have a lot of birds here. They come to bathe in the 30 ft. stream that flows down the hill into the pond. (My favorites are the cardinals and the gold finches) And I have 2 frogs that jump in as soon as I approach the pond. I'll look up mayflies online - even though they're small - they're too big to be gnats. Why do I want to get rid of them? They're annoying and occasionally I get bit.

my little pond is swarming with semaphore flies looks like i will have to wait until breeding is over even though they are a nuisance,any help to eradicate would be useful
