I would disagree with your installer. Garden windows still have an appropriate place in some homes. I would say, however, that I one point people were installing them willy nilly and not thinking about the aesthetic with their particular home... never a smart idea... whether a trellis, door, window, paint colors... it's not just about liking an attribute, it's about it being appropriate to the circumstances.
