Hi All. I just returned from my trip to TX to tear down my pond there and bring my Koi back here. Happy to say that of the 52 Koi I had there and but two are safely here in their new (temporary) home. One jumped from the holding tank (during the night) in TX while waiting to be packed and the second met his demise after arriving here. I think he got caught in the pump.

Now for my real issue. While dismantling the filters in TX I notice thousands of tiny "bugs", and I mean thousands. They were in the filter pads, on the sides of the filter tanks, in the piping and the two huge bags of lava rock were covered with them. I think they may be water fleas but not sure.

I washed ever thing and let it dry completely before loading for the trip but noticed that when I dropped the bags of lava rock some of these little guys would drop out and some still moving around.

Are these things harmful to my fish, which at this point all seem to be in good shape given the stress of being out of their home for 12 hours (in a holding tank) before being packed in boxes for a 26 hour ride across county?

How can I ensure I don't have an outbreak of these guys here? Are there eggs or some other way these guys can survive out of the water and start a new colony here.

I know pond maintenance is of up most importance but the pond in TX was being cared for my a neighbor who didn't understand what all had to be done. The ponds here will be well maintained so if maintenance is the key then I won't have to worry.

Your help would be greatly appreciated as I have no experience in this area.
