That happened to a couple of mine. My fault, during the move they were left outside overnight. Some were gonners, but the Catts, which looked like yours survived. I cut off the damaged bulbs and sat them in a pot with loose bark. That Spring, they sent off new roots and growths. They lost the damaged leaves, but the bulbs survived and made new growths.

The temps were in the 20's and it snowed (go figure) and they completely recovered, minus a bunch of leaves - ugly.

What I would do is to cut off the tip of each of those blackened bulbs. Then use a small paint brush and cover the cuts with household cinnamon. Then just do as you suggested, put it in a pot with no media and water it every day.

Jane- I feel so much better! Especially since we're in the same zone, I feel like mine can survive too!

Bob- I haven't cut off the black parts yet since the spots are not spreading, in fact they are drying up so I'm glad rot is not a problem...but I will be cutting them off sometime this week.

But there are no viable eyes...all the eyes are blackened and shrivelled up...will it still be able to produce new growth?

Dragon Kite, Those eyes may looked dried up but there is a very good chance that they will send out a new lead. After all you have four psudobulbs and each one has two eyes. Give it time and I'll bet anything that all will turn out well. Just don't forget to spray it every day. I grow mostly paphs. but grow a few of most genera. I've lost tons of plants over the years but very few catts. I can rot off the roots and they still come back. The are the most resistent of my orchids. It will bless you with a flower in the future, I'm sure of it.
