$4000?? That seems VERY high to me!! Figure on a couple pallets of rocks, a pump, a scrap piece of liner and a tank to hold the water (55 gallon barrel would work great). I could build that myself for less than $600 if I had to go buy everything myself. To have it done....I really don't know....but $4000 is TOO high.

Probably includes air fare. Those ain't just ANY rocks you know. They're mined by virgins in Vegas and you can imagine how rare they are.

I would say that that seams high to me because I think that waterfall is fake looking and ugly but that is me. I have built waterfall that have cost far greater that. A few years ago I built one that was $17,000.00 at someone's house. Of course it was 13 ft high and 16 ft wide and that included all the pumps to run it and the upper pond that fed it which was 15 x 12. With all the pumps running it had about 27,000 gph going over it.

I tried to let this go but couldn't. I realize that things like this are a matter of personal choice. I know that my opinion is only one person and I am no expert. But I REALLY don't like that waterfall. It looks totally artificial. Chop off the top half and it would look better but I still wouldn't want it in my yard. A waterfall half that tall and 2-3 times as wide with plants on, behind and around it would look a lot nicer. That should cost very little to build as it takes no real artistic flair and no talent to slap a bunch of rocks together with mortar. There. Have I offended enough people for the day?

Mike and kvolk, I like your courage and your taste.It takes a lot of guts to say something is really bad. I was going to keep my mouth shut but... That waterfall is estheticly disturbing. It reminds me of silver and pastel crayon in the hands of a 5 year old or metalic spray paint. Maybe the builder was a set designer for the Ice Capades or maybe one of the Vegas shows. Sorry, figfarmer. You would wind up hating it after the first snort from a guest. I know Calilfornia is noted for it's artist's but this didn't come from one of them. Sandy

This is likely one of my last posts on this forum after the one I made above so I'll explain why I said such a mean thing. I have been taken by something that was so unique I just had to have it. It might really appeal to me but it would not be long before I started seeing the flaws. I would hate to see someone spend that kind of money on something that he would quickly grow tired of. There are some lovely ponds on this forum. You can see some of them in the gallery at times. There are also some that are very prosaic but are well loved and enjoyed. I would not begin to criticise those because they are the product of the eyes of the beholder. I think the one in this picture is not one of those. I suspect figfarmer would regret this one very quickly. I apologise if I am wrong. Sandy

Well pigfarmer I must agree with most when I say that this waterfall is disturbing. Perhaps a dream gone awry. Honestly though you pay for the artist and the dream. One could built a waterfall of a similair size and spend $4000 on materials alone or spend $400 depending on material cost and availability. To pay someone else is to pay the artisan. That one I would not pay $4000 for but I could easily dream up a waterfall well worth that much to me. What you spend is relative to what it is you want and who you hire. In my neck of the woods it had better have a good pump, good filter, exotic stone, a whole bunch of "necessary" electrical work, and one heck of a artisan for that much.

And anyone who says it takes no artistic skill to build a waterfall is the worst kind of stupid!! The physical strength,knowledge of trades it takes to build a waterfall is admireabl at least! But to make one Beautiful is an art most artis could not dream of being capable of!
