What fabric?

I bought a Sheraton settee and want to reupholster it. Should I go with a pattern (I was thinking ikat)? Or a solid color? I was thinking a citrine color and pairing it with Schumacher Betwixt in charcoal/ivory pillows. I am not sure which room it will go in, but more than likely it will go in my living room. i have attached a picture of the room along with a picture of the settee. and two inspiration pictures of fabric I am considering. thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

HI - Love the settee but do it in a plain fabric or a tone on tone texture. OR how about a ticking , small stripe. Could not really see your room in the picture so not sure what will go in your room.

I AGREE WITH LEFTY47 AND FEENY. UPHOLSTERY IS EXPENSIVE AND, AS MUCH AS I LOVE SOME OF THE NEW MOROCCAN PRINTS, THE SUZANI'S, ETC. YOU WILL HAVE TO LIVE WITH THIS SOFA FOR YEARS. HERE IS A PICTURE THAT I THINK MAKES PLAIN LOOK EXTRA SPECIAL.

Going solid is safe, and good advice. But going wild is fun! Decide where your beautiful settee will go and make sure what you select will be happy with other things in that space.

I agree with Carolyn, plain is safe. Sure it will look nice but if you love something enough it can become the focal point in your room. At the moment citrus is 'in' but are you wanting to follow trends or do what you love? What's stopping you from going bold on pattern and adding citrus cushions?

Thank you SO much for your comments!! I am really leaning towards a velvet citron. The room it might go in has dark cobalt blue walls. One of my "issues" is I don't want the settee to fight with the couch (in terms of being the center of attention). I can't "match" the sofa but want it to compliment the sofa. That is my dilemma.

Hi lizzyc18, Marie Here. I agree that plain is safe - but do you really want that when bold patterned fabric is what takes your breath away and gives you WOW factor... It's about making the investment in that piece and that your going to be happy with it for the next 10 to 15 years. One of my absolute favorite things to do is to apply patterned wallpaper in a complimentary palette to my bold fabric. Choosing one or two chairs in the room to be accented with that fabric. I've attached a couple of photos to help prove my point. Be bold, be imaginative - that's what gets attention. IF you are leery, then go the safe route and get some cushions in your bold fabric - but if you truly want a designer look - GO BOLD!

Stick with a solid color for the sofa and use ikat patterns for pillows. I love ikat too but it will be dated in a few years. You can change the pillows for far less than the cost of recovering the sofa.

If the room w/the yellow sofa and gray walls is yours....trust yourself to pick the right fabric...that room is beautiful.......would love to see it when finished...

Choose what You love! I think both are great, I am loving the citrine solid color, it is so happy yet elegant with the simple lines of your settee!

Thanks so much to everyone! I think I'm going with the citron in a velvet. I really love that look. My thought is that this piece is meant to be the centerpiece of a room so don't fight it!! thanks again :) I will update when I get it back from the upholsterer!

Like the idea that you have chosen a plain fabric but more importantly one with a great texture and nap.

You have great taste, your living room is beautiful. Citrine and grey are very in style, go for it ! I am not sure about ikat, but a 2 tones pattern would be your best choice. Don't be shy, do it ! Plain fabric would be boring since you already have a yellow couch.

Yiu should writing to, Lizzie, not abigailscat. Lizzie asked about the citrine sofa with gray, not me.

Studio NOO Design - sadly that room is not mine, but an inspiration!! I have the greyish couch with dark blue walls. Thinking of selling the couch and replacing it with the settee in a similar fabric as the inspiration picture- citron velvet.
