low mat volunteer resembles creeping phlox

We have this volunteer in Central NC growing as a dense low mat with tiny white flowers with four petals and spiky leaves resembling creeping phlox (US quarter for size). It shows some ground cover potential.

The closest we could find was Galium andrewsii, which is actually called phlox-leaved, needlemat, or moss bedstraw - all descriptions that fit well our volunteer, but Galium andrewsii grows in California, has whorls of four leaves, whereas our volunteer has only two leaves per node, and its petals are pointed whereas ours are rounded.
