My daphne 'Carole Mackie" has survived 10 years, which included being nearly beat to death by a fallen tree. So I shouldn't be afraid to shape it, should I? But that near-tree-death experience made a mess of its shape, so again, it is do or die for it. Prune after bloom, I suppose. Any other guidelines?

do it after flowering

less is better .... you cant put them back on ... lol

if it were me... remove all dead, broken or crossing limbs .... and walk away ...

month later.. re-evaluate ... and remove a few more ... moving toward the shape you are thinking of ...

continue ad nauseum.. until you are happy with it ...

too many peeps.. try to do it all in one fell swoop.. and then are not happy with the result ...

there never is really any hurry with shrubs or trees..

if you could post a picture... maybe suggestions on how or where to start would be available...
