Water Hyacinths

Is it bad form to post the same pic in 2 different threads? :)

Anyway, this is the pond where I work. Currently the pump is goners and I'm waiting to get a new one. There is plenty of plant cover so I'm hoping all the fish will be okay until we get the new pump.

This is a cellphone pic so it isn't the best.

That is a lot of hyacinth! After the new pump is put to work you might want to thin them out and vary the plantings. It would make it more interesting. I assume it is for sale. If so it is certainly healthy for now. I would put in an air stone to keep the water from starting to smell bad. I wish my pond was so large.

Yes, it's definitely a lot of WH! And to think at the beginning of spring we started with only 6. I didn't expect them to multiply quite this much but we will overwinter a few in the GH.

Apparently there is a small hole within the top 6 or 8 inches and every couple of days I stick the water hose in to fill it to almost overflowing. It's my hope that is helping somewhat.

So far, no smell. I hope we get a new pump soon.
