I don't know if this will help, but professional pond builders built my pond and this is how they set the skimmer and bio falls in the ground. And it worked out great for us.

Two sub pumps......WOW isn't that alot of watts??? I'd look into an external pump. My external on my big pond uses less watts than my two small subs in the small pond.

How deep is this 2nd pond? My figuring at 18 X 13 would make the depth at @2 ft in the new pond... Is this the depth?

I just finish being part of a pond tour and the big question was "any predator problems?" Nope.. I went STEEP and DEEP. My pond is 3.5 feet (with an option to go 1/2-3/4 foot deeper). It was also my understanding that most koi will average 21" AND vertical swimming is an great benefit to the koi. The increase in depth would help.

So again, just how deep are you going?

I'm going about 2.5 to 3 feet deep. My existing pond is 2
feet deep. I have 14 koi now with the biggest four are 18 inches and the rest anywhere from 12 to 8. The new pond will have a canal connecting the ponds together.
