Thanks! My son was excited beyond all comprehension when the backhoe driver told him he could sit in the tractor.

They did a kind of lousy job - The site was totally not level and some of it (like where we did the patio) was VERY compacted from them driving stuff over the new topsoil. Thats why we brought in the extra loam. Once we finish spreading that we can do our sod and get the fence replaced.

Nice job, a lot of work! Your children are going to love have the sod to play on. I put a small amount down on my side yard and it made all the difference to the appearance. I love it. Enjoy!

Actually they are "Yorkstone" concrete 18" by 18" pavers from Loews. Glad they were realistic enough to make you think they were real stone :-)

Looks great! I'm planning on doing something similar soon, so I have a couple of questions: What did they use as a base -- how deep did they dig? what materials did they put underneath? Do you have drainage or frost heaving issues where you are? Also, what is your plan for getting people from the house to the patio? A path? If so, what kind?

Sorry to be so nosy, but when I see an attractive finished product, I love to find out the details.

I must admit that I kind of half-@ssed the undlerlayment, so we will see how well it holds up. We are in New England so frost heaves are a distinct possibility. For a base we put down just a couple inches of gravel and then an inch and a half of sand. By right you should certainly put down more gravel than that. We didnt really dig down any as the space was slightly sloped so we just used excess from one end to build up the other. The final topsoil was spread after the patio was down and helped to level everything. Since the pictures on the webpage were taken we have had a new cedar fence installed. Its looking really great. We are right in the middle of the city and its finally starting have a nice oasis feel to it.

Oh also, Yes we are planning a path from the driveway to the patio. That will probably happen next spring. I think its just going to be the same pavers as we used for the patio itself, as we have a lot left over.
