A glorious day

I'm just back home from the semi-annual day working at Vintage. Most of you know that an informal (and easily join-able) group of rose lovers gathers twice a year at Vintage Gardens in northern California for a half day of work, followed by a lovely feast. We never fail to have a good time, and today was no exception. On this occasion we weeded and spread mulch, both tasks easy with the soft, fluffy soil and the lightweight mulch of rice straw. The weather could not have been more perfect. It was one of those days when the sky seems to glow with benevolence above the world, and the air whispers promises of freshness and hope.

After all the food was eaten, I went back to a patch I wanted to weed a just a bit more - so satisfying! Before long my DH Tom came to lie idly upon the grass nearby. Soon another weeder was working nearby, followed by more and more people resting on the ground around us, just chatting and laughing. I cannot remember when I was last filled with such a sense of deep peace and contentment. I am convinced I was not the only one.

That sounds like heaven! Wish I could have shared it.

That sounds like a wonderful day with great companions!

I've always wanted to go to that, Paula. Unfortunate it would cost a thousand bucks so I guess I'm not going to. Maybe you guys should make a video.
Did Luanne make it? She doesn't post around here much anymore. I was wishing for her pictures lately.
I had a great day, too. 60 degrees and we went out and chopped the rosa eglanteria by the back porch down. Rosa eglanteria by the back door is just too much. It was suckering across the step and to each side. We are moving it across the ditch. I figure I can divide it into 11 new starts and make a hedge out there to feed the deer.
That is going to be tricky moving that thorny mother.

Kaylah, Luanne did indeed make it, as did a number of other GW AR forum friends. I'm not going to start listing names for fear I'll commit the dreadful sin of leaving someone out. Perhaps some of them will post later themselves.

Luanne tells me that she has not been taking many pictures lately. I have a feeling that she will indeed be posting again soon.

Perhaps one day something will bring you out this way and a trip to Vintage can be arranged, along will other northern California rose delights. Time brings many surprises, and some of them are good ones.

Sounds like a really nice, happy day; I would like to participate in that activity at Vintage. I had a nice day too.....it was by myself, however! The weather was beautiful here and I worked myself to the bone fertilizing and spreading mulch - what dummy around here made all these flower beds and why do they seem to be multiplying ;)

It does sound like a glorious day of labor and fellowship, with food thrown in! What could be better than that?

OK--Please enlighten the newbie. Where is Vintage Gardens?

Vintage Gardens is a rose nursery in Sonoma County. They sell own root roses by mail order, both old roses and older modern roses.

It was a glorious day. I am thrilled because the garden looks better than it has ever looked. The weather is also conspiring to make this a spring to be remembered. Whatever you do, don't miss open garden this year.
FOV's I love you all. Thank you so much for the pleasure of your company.
