strips of reflective mylar will work... for a while.

but birds aren't THAT dumb, and will eventually get over their 'flight' response.

caging the plants helps...but can interfere with the 'natural' look of a garden.

a motion-detector hooked up to a sprinkler isn't a bad idea...think of it as an automatic water-pistol for your garden.

after that, I'm afraid it amounts to revoking his visitor's pass...we had to chase wild turkeys off with a shotgun last year, they were terrorizing our golden retriver!

I have a pheasant, too, and I know he's eating lettuce and am afraid he'll move on to beans & sunflowers as they start to come up. Did you have any luck deterring yours?
