We use a product called "Nolo Bait". It's available at our local nursery. It's a bit expensive though. I think "Gardens Alive" has it in their mail order catalog.

It screws up their reproductive cycle.

Nolo Bait has a short shelf life, so use it soon after you obtain it.

We got some chickens. They are a great help for not only grasshoppers, but all bugs you don't want(grubs, roaches, even ants, etc.).
They also fertilize and give you eggs.
They are really great to have.

Attract birds and squirrels with feeders? They like to eat grasshoppers. You could even just put some sunflower seeds on a paper plate. Might also ask around at your local garden store for more ideas.

We had lots of grasshoppers here last year. I tried putting molasses in water and they drowned in the pails. This year I am trying a mixture of finely ground bran with molasses and an insecticide into a paste. Place around garden in containers wiht short sides.
