I wonder what the options are for a vacant house over winter given:

Zone 6 climate, low temp probably -2 to 0

Early 60's frame construction

Ranch style, no basement

Gas furnace, power and gas on

Choices as I see them:

1) Turn off water at main inside shutoff, furnace off, drain fixtures.

2) Leave water on, 1 faucet dripping cold water, furnace off

3) Leave water on, furnace set a 40F or so

My main concern is for freezing pipes. A water pipe once burst in a apartment my dad was renting, thermostat set normally.
