Snowblower loses power

Had a Toro 6.5hp single stage serviced because it wouldn't start. Got 12 inches of snow yesterday and it started great, even with last year's fuel. But after using it to clear the driveway and the wall the city plow threw up it stalled, understandably.

Then, although it restarted just fine, it would lose power and quit as soon as the blade was engaged. Took it out today and it started and ran well for a short time, then developed the same problem, only now it wouldn't restart at all. I also noticed a strange smell, different from the usual exhaust smell, like something overheating/scorching. Is there a belt to the blade that should be checked? Don't really need another repair bill and, though it's a few years old, it really hasn't seen that much use over the past winters.

Sorry for the length, but I wanted to paint a clear picture.
