Ebay has aftermarket ones for around $100, I bought a used Husky 55 that had a scored cylinder from a hardware store in St Francis MN. He was going to sell me a Husky cylinder kit for $175, but ended up honeing the cylinder and sanding the piston lightly (cleaned up nice) and just getting by with a ring. The only shortcoming that I see to your method ladylake is that what worked for your piston may not work for someone else`s piston, how much you removed from the piston skirt is a very subjective quantity. Removing too much is going to affect skirt seal and base compression, which is very important in a piston ported engine. I`ve done engines the way that you`ve described, some worked and others didn`t, but I do believe that often a new piston and rings coupled with a cleaned up cylinder can constitue a very good rebuild.
