They sell on ebay pretty often. Type "troy tomahawk" in the search and check the "include descriptions" box. Don't put in "bilt" as most people misspell it "built". You gotta make sure you buy the right screen for your machine. I posted a link to one for the newer models with the side chute. The older early 80's machines' screen did not have a handle like the one in the link. they do not have the side chute. I wouldn't buy too fine a screen or you'll constantly be plugging it. You'll want one with about 1 inch holes.

I used to have a super tomahawk and really liked it, but sold it when I bought a chipper/shredder for my BCS. Mine was the older model without the chute on the discharge. I had both the 1 inch screen and the bar grate. The bar grate was great for shredding corn stalks and such in the garden.

I don't think there's ALOT of different styles. Off the top of my head - 1. old style tomahawk and super tomahawk, no handle 2. newer style tomahawk with discharge chute, has handle 3. narrower tomahawk jr. screen 4. tomahawk pro much wider screen

Odds are you have one with a discharge chute.

Yep! It's the red one. Exactly. Now, my question, I guess, is "are the screens interchangeable?" The one shown with the green one looks about right, but withoout scale, it's hard to be sure. The ones I've seen pictured on e-bay LOOK a lot different (handles and all), but if they're the same size, I can make them work. If so, I'm all set.

Did you contact the person who sold to you and see if they had the screen sitting on their bench? The one I think you need (but can't be sure) is 48 bucks on ebay.

The newer ones are different dimensions than the older ones, but I think you can use any screen for a newer super tomahawk. The only thing you can do to know for sure is measure the length and width of the hole and find one with those dimensions.

The fellow I bought it from doesn't have a screen, and in fact didn't realize it needed one. One of his complaints about the machine was that it didn't chop leaves very fine. Actually, he used it almost completely for chipping, so didn't really NEED a screen.

From the pictures on e-bay, there's a slight difference in size and shape between the non-chute on the side and the older "straight down" model, but I don't have the dimensions on the older style and so can't be sure. Neither can I find a parts number for mine. I found an exploded diagram on-line, but it didn't show a screen. Apparently they were an option.

Oh, well..., I'm haunting e-bay, as you suggest. I think that's where I'll find one, eventually. Actually, there's an offering from an e-bay store (somewhere up in the midwest) for two, right now, one very large, one very small openings. I was kind of hoping for an "in-between". I have a Troy-Bilt Tomahawk Pro Chipper model 47044. I got it minus the drive belt and do not have a parts book and could not find one listing the drive belt, on line. I hope someone familiar with this model can let me know where I can get a belt and/or what the specification or dimensions the belt is suppose to be. Thank you in advance.

I purchased a Garden Way Troy Bilt 5 HP chipper shredder. I also have new hammers and parts. The old hammers were removed. I am not sure how it is assembled. There is no manual. The model is 47255. If anybody has a manual please contact me. Thanks.

I can likely muddle through this on my own / but an experienced flail knife changer could certainly help : what is the EASIEST way to change flail knives on one of these beasts ? I sharpened the chipper blade yesterday no prob (feed chute off : straight unscrew) but methinks I need to drop the whole chipper flywheel / shredder flailing assy by removing the main shaft....is this so ? Also : what keeps the flail axles from moving laterally in the machine : are they just an interference fit that needs to be punched out to get to the knives? / and/or a link to a manual would be handy / thanks

There's a hole on the bottom of the machine that lines up with the four flail axles. I don't remember axactly, but I think they're held from moving laterally by roll pins. These opins will need to be driven out through opening where the screen is placed. The axles will then need to be driven out of the flail assembly. I turned mine while I had it apart to replace the main shaft and the bearings it's a lot easier with it out, I imagine, but it's also a big pain to get it out.

When you put it back together, remember to use a liberal amount of anti-sieze to make it easier the next time you do it.

I had a manual for it, but it went with the machine when I sold it.

just "got-R done" : for me , the spacer removal off the shaft wasnt so much a rust situation as it was a deformation of the spacers ( they get mushroomed because of the lateral pressure the knives/hammers hammer them with). I was wondering if anybody has experience with replacing these : 1) is there an easy homebrew replacement / (getting to an abrasive cut off machine wouldnt be a problem for most , these days / say , if, an ex heavy black pipe size would work) 2) The replacement knives can be had : but they are $$ and I am cheap. I read somewhere someone had made some out of leaf springs : any info / pointers on this ?
