I had an inexpensive back pack manual sprayer, must have been 3 gallon. Even with the manual lever, it was much better than carrying a hand held sprayer and having to put it down to pump.

If you don't have to spray more than 3-5 gallons to cover your area, a manual pump should work fine, otherwise I'd recommend an electric pump as maineman says. I have a 15 gallon sprayer I move on my tractor trailer, and the electric pump works great.

My experience with an inexpensive (cheap) back pack sprayer is, buy a good one. Mine started leaking and I gave it a toss, it was of poor (cheap Chinese import) quality unit, still I can say the hand pump worked great for a few gallon job.
