Chainsaw sucks bar oil?

Got and older small polan/sears chain saw 1.8/10.(358.253630) thing runs great, but it starts smoking, I figure it's getting oil from the bar oil supply tank.

Has anybody sucessfully repaired this problem. I know this cause when I empty the oil tank and clean it out it don't smoke. It also don't oil I figure the oil is being sucked into the crankcase instead of pressurizing the bar tank?

I'm going to split the crank case anyway would just like some helpful hints on what I might find or look for???

Any information or theroies on how the tank gets pressurized would be helpful also.

The model number you gave didn't show up on the sears parts site, There is a check valve between the crank case and oil reservoir. Maybe you can find a good one some place, or clean/repair yours ? Good luck, let me know what you come up with.

RC, dont split it, just change the check valve!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I was one number off the correct model no. is 358.353630. I looked over the crank case don't see the check valve. it looks like it item 7 on the engine IPB? I'll look again to make sure I didn't over look it from the outside, thanks for the responses, I have a new check valve....

Hi rc, its sort of under the clutch drum. Looks like a bolt head. Been like 18 years since I worked on bunches of them but I think its a 1/2 inch wrench to unscrew the ck valve. HTH dave.

In the right place !!! It worked! I Found the check valve. the old one looked like a regular bolt head and the new one looked different and had a screwdriver slot in it. and Yes it was right behind the Clutch drum....

A Big thanks to Techdave and giventake, saved me a complete teardown My 6 dollar ebay saw runs and OILS like new now with I might add NO SMOKE!!!!!! Not too bad for a 25 dollar total investment. I always wanted one of them real small saws... Thanks again....
