New Troy Bilts are MTDs, the cheapest built stuff out there. One will be great, the next will be junk. I had an MTD chipper for a short time but got sick of unplugging the discharge. It also had unrelated engine problems. The one I had may have been good with dryer leaves but it was absolutely junk for any wet material such as sweet corn stalks and wet leaves.

If you're on a budget and don't mind used, get an older Troy Bilt Super Tomahawk (early 90's or older). They're not as easy to load as the newer ones but do a very good job of shredding stuff. I put sweet corn stalks, wet leaves, branches up to 3 inches, cabbage roots, pretty much anything through mine. The bar grate works good for wet materials but I'd like to find a screen with inch and a half holes. A good used Super Tomahawk shouldn't be more than 500 bucks. Mine was $175 and $75 in parts. I see 'em on ebay all the time.
