Hi joweed, many possibilites. First discon the trolley so you aint moving the door, then see how many cycles it runs for. Door should open easily and smoothly by hand. If youstop it by remote in mid rail can you start it again?

when it stops, unplug and remvoe cover, is motor hot? How are the motor bushngs and the gear? Remove the capacitor and test it. Motor should have cont red to white and blue to white, all motor leads should be insul from the motor body body.

Did you do all the stuff in my GDO repair tips number 1 and 2? pleae repost with the answers. HTH Dave.

The motor has a built in thermal switch that protects it from overheating. Sounds like this may be what you are running into. How heavy is the door when you open it by hand? Just curious, why are you opening and closing so many times?

Thanks Dave, and Don. Dave, I looked back at your repair tips and did some looking at my GD. I ran the unit up and down several times with the door/trolley) disconnected...and had no problem. I reconnected the door, and have run the door numerous times tonight, again with no problem. I'm not one in believes in benevolent ghosts..I suspect the problem will be back... In the meantime, I did check the door for binding (none detected). The spring is fine and the door rolls up and down fairly easily. I get some slight oscillation (axial to the center rail)when starting down as the motor kicks the door and the door "kicks" back.

To Don's question, the problem didn't care about how long I waited between opens/closes, it was a cumulative effect...unless I powered down the unit. Start of the day it worked, and later in the day when I returned home, it wouldn't open/close.
More diagnostics: Tonight I can start and stop the door midway up or down with the controllers... Haven't opened up the unit to review the gear ...Force limits were fine...door reversed when moving down and interfered with (stops on upward motion interference). This door has been fine for years...and I've not made any recent adjustments. I will probably pull the housing tomorrow and have a look at the gear and check the temp of the motor. Stay tuned.

I have the same exact problem with the exact CRAFTSMAN garage door opener. Were you able to fix this problem ?
After some time, the garage door does not open, I just hear a CLICK, some sort of a lockup. The garage door unit lightbulb does not go on either.

randykahn - did you ever get an answer to your post? I have the identical problem. I don't want to run out and buy another unit without understanding what's wrong with the one I have - though it's 12 years old. It was working fine until this afternoon. It went up and I haven't been able to get it to do anything since. Just a single click and then the LED flashes 5 times. I've since found that means "No RPM in 1 second" which is less than useful diagnostics. Any feedback you can provide is appreciated.
