Oops...file format problem with original post. I don't think you can tell from the photo, but the doors on the pantry to the right of the wall cabinets are the type that pull out like drawers, rather than swinging out like doors, so I'm not sure where to position the door handles on the doors. They need to be somewhere in the center of the door so that it pulls out properly (with the drawers attached). I just don't know if I should install long handles vertically, or shorter ones horizontally. (help)

We had a similar situation with drawers for the garbage in the island....we ended up putting the pulls horizontally in the middle of all the drawers...and on the cabinets we put them horizontally at the bottom of the cabinet near the opening....I will try to post a picture....

Isn't it amazing how little details like this require so much thought? For cabinets that swing open, I would think that a vertical application would offer a more comfortable grip, whereas pull out drawers and garbage bins would be best served with a horizontal handle. I would be inclined to mount the pantry door pulls vertically so that the lower edge lines up with your adjacent countertop, but experiment with what feels best for your height.

Thanks for the feedback Ladies! It really IS a surprise that we've made SO MANY decisions about our kitchen without hesitation, but this one has me worried. Probably because these handles are very different from any that I've installed before.

I put some painters tape on the doors where the handles might go so I could get an idea of how they'll look. I think I probably will install the wall cabinet pulls AND the pantry pulls vertically. I'm usually pretty comfortable following my instincts, even when I am breaking the rules, but I'm worried that there's something I'm not seeing that will become painfully obvious as soon as I've drilled those holes...ACK...fingers crossed!
