Is she willing to go through the steps required to sell them individually or would an estate auction be a better bet? I have no idea what the market is in your area.

Local auctions are the fastest, most complete way to disperse an estate. You'll not get the highest prices for everything, but the sale is one day long and it's all gone. With selling stuff piecemeal, you'll be at it for months and never sell everything. With selling stuff private, you gotta deal with people who make an appointment to see stuff and don't show, bad checks, stuff never getting sold, thieves pretending to look at stuff but really casing your place, etc. An auctioneer will leave you with one payment and he has to deal with the bad checks, etc.

There are good, honest auctioneers and auctioneers as crooked as the day is long. A good one will get good prices and leave you with a good feeling and a nice, fat check. A crooked one will rob you blind 100 ways. I'd call at least 6 auctioneers and get how much commission they get, how much they're willing to get the stuff set up, whether or not they have a buyer's fee (don't hire one with a buyer fee). But don't go on that alone. Ask around the area. Both the good and bad ones will have a reputation that will become very apparent.

If the equipment is mostly one brand, and your friend can figure out which dealer it came from, that might be a good source for some good advice. Seems to me anybody who has spent big bucks on a combine and a couple of tractors (and maybe a lot of dealer repairs and service over the years) has some "good will" assistance coming.
