Honda FG100 oil leak--cannot find

I have a Honda mini tiller, FG100, that I have had for a fwe ears, long enough to experience the transmission failure and resultant high-dollar replacement. The tiller ran fine the first season after I replaced the transmission, but last season I noticed the engine being covered by an ooze of oil. i could not localize the leak. I thought maybe I had overfilled the oil when I had changed the oil and emptied some out and put it up for the winter. The engine has always run amazingly smoothly for such a tiny engine.

I got it out today, and removed the transmission, the recoil starter, the housing etc. to see if I could determine the source of the leak.I could not do it! There was dirt encrusted oil over most of the engine. The transmission was fine--no leaks aroudn the clutch. No oil was on top of the engine.

Could a slight overfilling of the crankcase have caused this? And where would it have come out?

Any suggestions are welcome,.
