Great if there are no turns to be made.

They work, but they're a trade off. IMHO, you get the best cut, etc. with something attached to the tractor, these just "trail" behind and it'll take a little getting used to to avoid streamers. If you're using it as a "finish" mower, front dolly wheels or equivalent are imperative, otherwise, the grass will be cut in waves as the mower moves up and down based on where the towing vehicle is. Also, as was pointed out, turning is a concern.

I know several guys who have them, essentially they were justification for the purchase of the ATV. One point of concern is that some don't have a way to shut them off from the towing vehicle. My next door neighbor had one and was mowing in an "offset" configuration, in that the mower was tracking behind and to the left of the ATV. He mowed into a rock and before he could do anything, several hundred dollars worth of spindle, bearing and blade damage had occurred. However, a remote kill switch isn't hard to connect if you're reasonably handy.

Something I"ve wondered is if ATV's are happy dragging a heavy load at 2-4 MPH for extended periods? Leave that question to someone more knowledgable to answer.

Thank you Cedgo and exmar for your comments. We have native grass growing along our roadway and in a small back unfenced pasture which my husband knocks down each yr to reduce fire danger. The kill switch might be of concern but mowing unevenly wouldn't be an issue. Uneven shorter grass is better than nothing. I'll ask more about the slower travel time to see if that's a concern on the ATV. Appreciate your comments.
