Hey, at that price, I would probably grab one.
If nothing else, it would be fun to play with,

I went onto yard machines website. That looks like my ryobi 775R except it doesn't have the split shaft. I bought my trimmer refurbished from harbor freight about 7-8 years ago. Still works great. Has the same 31cc engine and the design looks the same. Its a bit of a pain to start, but once you get it down its not to bad. First you push the primer a few times, than set the choke to full. Pull the cord until it seems like its gonna start. Then move the choke to half and pull the trigger about 1/4 throttle and pull the cord. I found that if you don't pull the trigger slightly during the half choke start you'll be there all day. If it stalls during this step, go back and set the choke to full and repeat the process. After its running about 10 secs you can turn off the choke and it will idle fine. Most folks won't put up with this kind of starting procedure, but I paid 75 for my trimmer and about the same for both the tiller and edger attachments. Its not a bad trimmer if you can put up with its starting procedure.

Ryobi use to be a decent 99 dollar alternative for those on a tight budget. However the MTD versions are Chinese made and not certain just how good they are or if the price is reflective of being Chinese made. If ths is a recon rather then new it can be a roll of the dice. I'm not up on all the details how MTD handles these things but traditionally factory recons are not the manufacture doing the repair. They are someone the store contracts to do it and some do good work, others do not. Also traditionally the only warranty on recons is held by the selling store. Just something to consider.

go on ebay and you can find them as low 5 to 10 bucks plus shipping in the craftman label.

$67 replace every year or two vs $250 for one that will last 20 years. Steve
