I'd add "transitional" to the list as well. The style that is in between traditional and contemporary....

Good idea, cottage really could be coastal and vice versa. Cottage seems more appropriate.

cottage style has at least 4 subdivisions (water front, suburban,urban and rural. Each has different structures to integrate the home to the site.

I would be interested in the suburban subdivision.

Interesting idea, I usually just include the word 'cottage' or 'coastal' in my searches if I was looking for that style.

Dytecture is absolutely right that you can really add any term that is relevant when doing a search in the Photos section of Houzz. It's a remarkably precise search engine because it includes for each photograph both keywords provided by the original designer and descriptive terms from Houzz users who have commented on photographs when adding them to their ideabooks. So you can type in something very general like "Coastal" or very precise, like "coastal living room with blue rug" and get results tailored to your specific design issue.

Thank you all for your input and responses. I agree that the search engine is very adaptable and capable of picking up as much information to search by and has always provided me with what I am looking for and more. As a relatively new user it took a little time to figure out how much detail or specifics I can search for versus using the home page settings. The ideabook definitely adds a means of capturing a style and leads you down that design path. I rely on and always have relied on ideas from magazines which focus on specific styles and cottage or coastal is a pretty popular design that serves as the need to market many types of magazines so not seeing coastal or cottage style as one of the style selections on the home page surprised me. The website has so much on it I could be on it for hours- it has been a great introduction for me. Thanks!
