I don't have Perle de Jardins, only because of the reports of balling. I ordered Soncy from Countryside Roses because Lisa said it was just like PDJ only better, because it never balls. I don't see it listed there right now, but double check if your interested. I put a link for ARE, see what they say about it. I think its a good substitute!

It looks like Soncy would behave more as a shrub, am I wrong? I did get perle because I could train it to an arch tunnel I am slowing building (adding on to as the roses get larger).

Soncy looks beautiful. It is a lovely yellow too. I'm stuck on yellows, whites, buffs as all the other roses in the area are this color (several short shrubs and a Westy and Autumn Sunset on a flat trellis on the other side of the path. When the brugs of similar colors are blooming, this is a spectacular combo of both scent and sight.

Very willing to take suggestions that don't require spraying in heat and humidity. Back to parusing Jean's old no-spray list for possibilities!!

There is a tea I saw at Uncommon Rose and it was so pretty. It is definately a climber...

The lovely 'E. Veyrat Hermanos' is both blessed and cursed among roses: blooms of unparalleled beauty on a plant that must reach maturity before rebloom is very reliable. Still, it is worth the patience required of it. Make no mistake, this is a very vigorous climber, capable of putting on ten feet of growth in a single season, but it does not rebloom well until year two or three. Also known as 'Pillar of Gold', the blooms are about 3.5 inches across, packed with petals in quartered form and the colors are amazing: fruit sherbet shades in soft yellows, golds, oranges and even hints of flame on petal edges. The fragrance is quite lovely and well-suited to a bloom of this color. Bred in 1895 by Alexandre Bernaix of France. Classed as a climbing Tea, you can expect 'E. Veyrat Hermanos' to attain a mature height of 10 to 15 feet. Easily trained to a support with its flexible canes. A lovely climbing Tea, suitable for relatively frost-free climates only.

It might be worth checking out for your arch :)

Maybe someone in your zone will speak up about it.. it seems that some roses ball reliably while others dont have a problem :)

I also have a great climber called "kiss of desire" or "harlekin" - it is very vigorous. White with red/pink edges. Very vigorous.

Would J. Desprez work for your area? I love that rose too.

Jaune Desprez will not ball, or he never has for me. I have my share of ballers but Jaune is not really yellow. He is sometimes but he is more pink and white than yellow. Lady Hillingdon is yellow. Lemon Meringue is yellow. La Marque is more yellow than most of the climbing teas and she will reach glorioious heights and widths and lengths. She is not bashful and very disease resistant.

I just can't say to the size of Soncy, too new for me. I am not sure what it will do. Only 2 years old and kind of small right now...? Not sure how it will end up.
I do have 'E. Veyrat Hermanos' it is supposed to be huge, I have it in an area that my hose will not really get to, it is tough. I have it kind of growing like an arching shrub and when planned to have it wind around a teepee.. It will bloom for the first time this year, I am excited. It has been in for 2 years I think. JD is very pretty too.
Do you have Rêve d'Or? It is a knock out, but not sure if it will be too big for you? I can't say enough about this rose, I am so impressed with it. Only planted last year, but it is up onto my pergola thing and was one of my first blooming roses, and still has buds on it. So, not only has it grown vigorously, but its blooming to beat the band. So soon.. Oh well, good luck there are so many to choose from! Have fun, your area sounds divine!

do you have Colonial White? - almost pure white - lots and lots of petals; healthy as a horse for me in Texas and it smells great - I absolutely adore the blooms and it blooms a lot
