Problem Hanging String Trimmer Vertically?

Lately, I've started hanging my string trimmer vertically. I've noticed that after it has been hanging for a week and then used, the engine seems to bog (for lack of a better way to describe it). It is much worse when the trimmer head is parallel with the ground (string spinning parallel to the grass). However, if I tilt the head so that the string is spinning vertically, it seems to operate better.

Now, if I leave the trimmer sitting horizontally for a week and then use it, I've got no problems at all... I'm confused. It seems that hanging trimmers vertically is something that a lot of people do. Mine, however, doesn't seem to like being stored vertically.

If it matters I have a Shindaiwa 2 stroke.

Thats interesting. I have always hung my 3 string trimmers vertically and have had no problems, they start right up and run fine.

Every time I think That I have heard just about all of the problems possible with lawn equipment something new comes along. It obviously has something to do with the fuel or the fuel system. How old is your gas mixture?? One indication of too old a mixture is if the motor smokes excessively when you first start it. I would empty out the gas tank and clean it really good. Pour a couple of cups of pure new gas in the tank and swish it around for a while, then let the trimmer set still for a couple of hours and then swish again and pour it out. I AM NOT SAYING TO START THE MOTOR WITH PURE GAS DO NOT DO NOT DO THAT. If there is any doubt about the quality of the gas mixture get rid of it and start over with a fresh tank. If that does not help than the problem is probably in the carburetor. Sometimes just spraying the outside of it with a good carb cleaner will help. Beyond that things get a little more complicated.

My fuel mixture has been between 1 day and 3 weeks old. I've been experimenting with the placement of the trimmer (horizontally or vertically) for several weeks now and have gone through more fuel due to experimenting. I don't think it is stale fuel.

I don't seem to have any problems with the trimmer when it has been stored horizontally. And, the trimmer seems to start fine after being stored in either position, but seems to run poorly when throttled only when stored vertically.

Strange...
