I use a Scepter automatic gas shut off spout consisting of a spring-loaded sliding plastic sleeve which moves up and down a stationary transfer tube.

The thing has started sticking in an OPEN position during filling which can be quite messy and defeats the purpose of the spout.

I would like to lubricate the sliding part of the spout with something that would prevent sticking but would'nt leave a gummy residue or deteriorate the rubber O-ring that seals the tip. I used a few drops of motor oil on it today but was wondering if there might be something that is better - Dupont Teflon lubricant perhaps or a shot of silicone spray?
