The carb is easy to disassemble and clean. Here's a link to PDFs for the owner's manual that state how to adjust the carb.
Perhaps get a new air filter and plug if needed. If the gas is "old" perhaps filling it up with "new" gas would be helpful as well. Good luck.

Cleaned out the carb with carb cleaner. Everything else looked fine. Had no problem starting it up. Now it runs like new. Can't beat a Mantis for a buck-fifty in carb cleaner.

Gotta love it when that happens LOL.

Congrats on your new toy. I found mine in a junk pile alongside the road. When I saw it, I figured it was locked. When I got it home, it fired right up with some fresh gas. Too bad it had the edger attachemnt for it but not the tines. I bought the tines through mantis and now have a good little tiller.

It's amazing what people throw away these days.

Look through the Mantis catalog for their dethatcher. That's if you don't have acres and acres of grass. I bought one last year and was impressed with what it could do.

I have an old Mantis tiller. It won't start, so I took it to a repair/dealer. They told me I needed to have the carburetor replaced and a new fuel filter. It was going to cost well over $100. So, since I bought this thing at a yard sale several years ago anyway, I bought a new 4 cycle engine Mantis. Now I still have the one that doesn't work. Could someone tell me how to replace the carburetor myself? It could be a neat thing to play with.
