Not getting gas sounds right. Once I had a gas power tool that wouldn't run when the gas tank vent got plugged. Does it stall when the cap is loosened a little bit? Trying that would rule that possibility (and easy fix) out....

thanks i tried that this afternoon while still playing with it. i found that it idles fine, runs fine at half trigger, but full trigger it dies. im thinking that maybe there is a blockage in the high circuit in the carb. may have to pull it out and try blowing it out

Did it sit for a long time with old gas in it? They keep telling me that letting them sit with old gas plugs up the little orifices in the carburetor, so you are probably on the right track.

Oh, before you tear into it, how about a plugged air cleaner? Worth looking at maybe....

Clogged carb would be my first guess, also check the fuel and impulse lines for cracks and make sure the impulse line is hooked up right. Steve

thanks for the feedback so far. steve, what are the impulse lines? im not familiar with that. i am also finding what looks to be a vent tube from the tank but with a set screw screwed into the plastic tube. how does this tank vent to allow fuel flow. it looked purposely set in there so i let it go, but i was just wondering. i will get into the carb next.

good news. i took off the carb, took it apart carefully and blew it all out. found some white residue in the recesses. put it all back and runs perfect. stihl is the best in making things service friendly. 2 high quality nuts hold the entire carb/air cleaner assembly together. the whole operation probly took less than 20 min. beautiful. thanks for all the help from everyone.

Nice to hear it was a easy fix, I always add Stabil to my gas and try to get gas without ethonal and run my saws at least every 2 months. So far no troubles doing that. For storage I don't think running them dry works that well unless you pull the carb and get every bit of gas out of it. Steve
