DR walk behind string trimmer change 2 to 4 cycle

I have an older 2 cycle DR walk behind string trimmer that was run with out oil I bought for a good price. I already have the replacement piston and rings as the cylinder needs to be honed.

Has anyone ever replaced a 2 cycle engine for a 4 cycle engine before. I already have a new 5hp B&S I believe will work on the DR. I may just need to replace the drive pulley and do extra work on mounting it. I could work on the 2 cycle engine and get it running however I think a newer engine would start more easily and be more reliable. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. dave

The mounting base should be the same, the major issue would be crankshaft diameter and length. Make sure the replacement engine is not for a mower with zone start, you need an engine with the heavier flywheel.

Thanks for your input. I haven't compared the shaft diameters and length yet buy as long as the length is long enough I'm guessing it should work. I may have to replace the pulley if the diameter is different. Thanks for your help. dave
