1. Does never been used mean it has never had fuel in it? Without fuel in a cool area IMO it should be OK.
2. Have you tried any carb cleaner in the fuel (2oz per tank)? Let it idle a while to circulate, soak , then start.
3. Have you tried tweaking the "H" fuel mixture? Turn to light seat to know where you started, back out + 1/8 turn.
4. Share your results and more history. Idling, you are a step up in troubleshooting. Good Luck!

I put some carb cleaner directly into the carb two days ago. will report back. Does Chevron Techron qualify as carb cleaner when added to the fuel?

Carb needs adjusted.

Problem is the new style "EPA Approved" carbs need special tools to adjust them with. The tools are not available to the public and are only legally sold to dealers and licensed repair shops. A shop or dealer can actually be fined thousands of dollars and/or jailed for even loaning one of the tools out to someone.

Luckily I bought a complete set before the ban came into effect and have held onto them dearly.

People can and do get around this with grinders and hacksaw blades or small cutoff wheels, But I will not go into details as to how it is done.

The type of screws found on a Weedeater brand are know as Pine Apple.

H= HI speed screw. This adjust the fuel/air mixture at wide open throttle.
L = LO speed screw. This adjust the fuel/air mixture from idle to about 1/2 throttle.

On some models these screws are hidden under small plastic caps that can be adjusted by the owner. But the caps limit the adjustment to point to where they are actually useless.

IMO Techron carb cleaner vs an additive could be as good as BerrymanâÂÂs B-12 or Etc cleaner.

Please post a pic of your carb to see if it adjusts friendly. Did you open the carb to ck Etc? If so, was the diaphragm soft/flexible?

When taking the gas cap off for the first time, this little wheel item fell out of the cap. I've heard stories about defective caps before. I haven't opened the carb yet - and hopefully don't need to - not my favorite thing to do. I tried to run the unit with the gas cap off and also with the cap on. Didn't seem to make any difference. The pic is of the wheel item on the air filter. Was wondering if this is an important part of the gas cap. Not a good pic I know. Sorry about that.

That might be part of a retainer to hold the gas cap close to the tank vs dropping. See if there is another part to it in the tank. See if the tank is very clean inside. Try running it w/o the fuel filter on the line.

Please send a shot of the carb with adjustment screws in the view. If they are adjustable, have you tried tweaking them?

Could it possibly be a linkage issue of the throttle cable not opening the throttle in the carb? Take the air filter off and look in the carb to see if the throttle plate is opening as you give it gas. Try to run it w/o the air filter to know it is not restricting air.

IâÂÂm About Out Of Gas! Idling is saying a tweak or cleaning IMO.

Sorry about the bad pic of the carb. That's about all I could get for a pic. I cleaned the fuel tank. Took the fuel filter off. The throttle works OK - and the choke works OK. The first thing I take off is the air filter. I did not check the carb or the diaphragm. That's about all there is left. I'm about gas also. Thanks for all your help. Getting close to the garbage can.

Are caps over the Carb adjustment screws to restrict you from tweaking the adjustments?

Checking the carb internally I hope will reveal something and IâÂÂll suggest you look under both covers. One should allow you to see the diaphragm is soft and the needle and seat are not stuck. The other should allow you to see the âÂÂfine fuel screenâ in the carb is not restricted.

This is a puzzling statement above. Are you positive or you were told it has never been used? Have you seen any signs that fuel has been in the engine at some point?

If it is idling, I feel itâÂÂs worth giving to a Yardman that could fix it or use it for parts vs trashing it.
